CHARGER CHARGE ON TO BOSTON |
by: Jeff Willis The San Diego Chargers defeated the defending Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts Sunday at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis. The final score was 28-24. The Chargers will travel to Boston next Sunday to take on the New England Patriots for the AFC Championship. Former Waco University Trojan Ladainian Tomlinson suffered a knee injury early in the second quarter and was forced to watch from the sidelines as his teammates played on to a surprising victory against the heavily favored Colts. Back-up running back Michael Turner ran for a game high 71 yards in that contest. Starting quarterback Phillip Rivers was also sidelined with a knee injury, handing the reins over to his back-up, Billy Volek. Both Tomlinson and Rivers are expected to be well enough to play in next Sunday's match up. Wide receiver Antonio Gates is also suffering from a dislocated toe, but will play against New England. Former Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Norv Turner is in his first year as San Diego's head coach. This was his first post season victory as head coach. Indy's Peyton Manning finished the game with 33 of 48 passes for 402 yards in the losing effort. He was intercepted twice. There is some speculation that Indy head coach Tony Dungee will retire and will not return to the Colts' sidelines next season. San Diego and the Patriots will play for the AFC Championship next Sunday at 2 pm. |
